When the kids are out for their summer vacation, I start to reminisce about my summers past. No work, no school, no worries. Just friends, sunshine and good times. I remember making a list of all the things I wanted to do in those 60 days of freedom. I never made it past 5 on the list. There always seemed to be so much time.
I Remember....
Walking and biking everywhere. I never thought of asking my parents for a drive. How would my kids survive without our car!
Going to the corner store to buy a Screwball or a Lola. If only I could find these and ship them frozen to my home in San Diego.
Playing Kick-the-can till way past dark. Hiding in neighbours yards and garages. Can you imagine letting our kids do that?!
Having a wicked great tan. No worries about skin cancer back then.
Setting up a Kool-Aid Stand to make some extra money. 10 cents a glass.
Spending 2 weeks in Wasaga Beach at a summer camp. No parents. I made friends from all over Canada and the US and reconnected with them every year.
Swimming in Georgian Bay when it was still very, very cold.
Camping with my family at Long Point Provincial Park on the Labour Day Weekend. The official end of my summer.
Great memories....share your Canadian summer memories.
